Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South, has claimed that Nigeria’s national budgets for the past three years have not been implemented. Speaking at the ADC Congress in Sokoto on Saturday, the former governor of Sokoto State alleged that funds allocated for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 budgets were diverted for vote-buying purposes. “I’m a senator, and honestly, all the budgets we passed in 2023, 2024, and 2025 have not been actualized. Where is the money? It has been diverted so they can buy votes,” Tambuwal stated in a video that has since gained traction on social media. However, he did not provide any evidence to substantiate his claims.
Tambuwal further criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that it has worsened insecurity, poverty, and hunger throughout the country. “I believe Nigerians have seen what Bola Ahmed Tinubu can deliver, if anything has been delivered at all,” he remarked. “This administration has only brought more insecurity, poverty, and hunger.” The senator also raised concerns about the mismanagement and diversion of public resources, warning that such funds could potentially be used to influence voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His comments have ignited a debate regarding fiscal accountability and governance in Nigeria, although the presidency has yet to respond to these allegations. Tambuwal’s assertions come at a time when there are ongoing concerns about budget implementation and transparency in Nigeria, where delays and underfunding of critical projects have been persistent challenges. As the country approaches the next electoral cycle, the senator’s statements are likely to intensify scrutiny of the federal government’s management of public finances.
