Akpabio Predicts End of Insecurity Post-Election

Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate, has asserted that the country’s worsening security challenges will subside within two weeks following the upcoming general elections.

Akpabio made the remarks on Tuesday during the official launch of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, claiming that opposition to the administration has driven some groups to sponsor violence and insecurity.

“Insecurity is increasing because elections are coming, because people don’t know what to do again,” Akpabio said. “Immediately after the election, two weeks after the election, insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people.”

His comments come amid a sharp escalation in security crises across Nigeria. Recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of several military commanders and soldiers, further straining the nation’s security apparatus. On Monday, President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police to address the deteriorating situation.

The surge in violence has raised concerns among citizens and international observers about the stability of the electoral process. Analysts note that persistent insecurity could undermine voter turnout and disrupt the credibility of the elections.

Akpabio’s optimistic timeline for resolving security issues has sparked debate, with some questioning the feasibility of such a rapid turnaround. Security experts emphasize that long-term solutions will require sustained efforts beyond the electoral cycle, including addressing root causes such as poverty, unemployment, and regional grievances.

As Nigeria approaches the polls, the government faces mounting pressure to restore peace and ensure a safe environment for voters. The outcome of the elections and subsequent security measures will be critical in determining the nation’s stability in the months ahead.
