Former Galatasaray midfielder Tugay Kerimoğlu has issued a warning to the club regarding their heavy reliance on striker Victor Osimhen, urging them to adapt their tactics during his absence. Osimhen is currently sidelined due to a hand injury sustained in a UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool. His absence was particularly noticeable in Galatasaray’s recent 1-1 draw with Kocaelispor, a result that cost the team two points in the Turkish Super Lig standings. Despite this setback, Galatasaray retains a narrow two-point lead over second-placed Fenerbahçe at the top of the league table.
In an interview with Habersarikirmizi, Kerimoğlu emphasized the importance of rediscovering the form of other attacking players, especially Mauro Icardi. He remarked, “As of today, there’s clearly an issue with Icardi. Could there be a better time to win Icardi back? You can start with Icardi at home.” The former Turkey international also cautioned against over-dependence on a single player, stating, “I don’t think it’s right to forget about the other players because of one player. When Osimhen leaves, do you have a chance to find another Osimhen? You have to play the games without Osimhen.”
Kerimoğlu further pointed out that opponents have begun to exploit weaknesses in Galatasaray’s setup. He noted, “I think opponents know Galatasaray’s weaknesses. They have learned that their midfield is their heart. They have figured out where to press, how to direct the play, and where to deliver the ball.” His comments come at a critical juncture for Galatasaray, as they strive to maintain their lead in the league while coping with the absence of their star forward. The club will need to demonstrate tactical flexibility and depth in their squad to navigate this challenging period and sustain their title challenge.
