Spotify Now Sells Physical Books in US and UK via App

Spotify has officially launched its physical book sales feature in the United States and the United Kingdom, marking a notable expansion beyond its core audio streaming business. The service, which allows users to purchase physical books through the Spotify app, is now live in partnership with Bookshop.org, an online marketplace that supports independent bookstores.

On audiobook pages within the app, a “Get a copy for your bookshelf” button directs users to Bookshop.org’s website, where pricing, inventory, and shipping are managed. At launch, the feature is available exclusively on Android devices, with iOS access expected next week.

This move positions Spotify as a direct competitor to major booksellers and aligns with its broader strategy to become a comprehensive platform for book lovers. The company has been pursuing profitability through a mix of initiatives, including subscription price increases in the US and Europe, and recently reported reaching 751 million monthly active listeners.

Alongside the book sales rollout, Spotify has expanded several other audiobook features. The “Page Match” tool, which enables users to scan a page from a physical or e-book and be directed to the corresponding section in the audiobook, now supports more than 30 additional languages, including French, German, and Swedish. Since its English-language launch in February, Spotify reports that users engaging with Page Match stream an average of 55% more audiobook hours per week and are 62% more likely to listen to titles they had not previously streamed.

The company has also introduced “Audiobook Recaps,” short audio summaries tailored to a user’s most recent listening point, now available on Android devices. Additionally, “Audiobook Charts,” similar to Spotify’s existing Music and Podcast Charts, have been rolled out in Germany, following earlier launches in the US and UK. These charts highlight trending and popular audiobooks to help users discover new titles.

By integrating physical book sales and enhancing audiobook discovery tools, Spotify is broadening its footprint in the publishing sector while reinforcing its position as a multi-format media platform.
