PDP Crisis: "It’s a challenging period for us" — Makinde on appeal Court judgment

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State have publicly rejected attempts by unnamed external forces to destabilize the state’s political environment. In a communiqué issued after a meeting on Wednesday, the party chieftains pledged to prevent any actions that could create discord between Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin.

The communiqué, read by Adewuyi Ojoawo, who chaired the meeting, addressed rumors that emerged on Tuesday alleging that Ogundoyin’s leadership of the House of Assembly was planning to impeach Governor Makinde. The PDP leaders dismissed these reports as baseless, characterizing them as a calculated attempt to create division between the executive and legislative branches of government. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the existing harmony between Governor Makinde and Speaker Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East in the Assembly.

“The Forum strongly condemns any attempt by external forces to destabilize the state or disrupt the harmony currently existing between the executive and legislative arms of government,” the communiqué stated. The PDP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s unity and stability in Oyo State, warning that they would not allow outside interests to interfere with governance or create unnecessary political tension.

This statement highlights the sensitivity of relations between the governor and the legislature in Oyo State, especially in light of recent speculation regarding political alignments ahead of future electoral cycles. The leaders’ stance reflects a concerted effort to maintain cohesion within the ruling party and safeguard the state’s political stability.
