Actor Yul Edochie has ignited debate online after advising men to stop tolerating disrespect in marriage, declaring that respect for a man is “non-negotiable.” The statement, posted on social media, drew swift responses from various quarters, including from Obasi Emmanuel, the ex-husband of actress Judy Austin.
Obasi, who has previously accused Edochie of taking Judy Austin from their marriage, offered a sharply contrasting perspective. In a Facebook post on Thursday evening, he warned against using marital conflict as justification for serial relationships. “If your only option is to run to another woman when you feel disrespected, you will build three football teams, including the fans, in your lifetime in the name of marriage,” he wrote.
He further argued that true manhood is defined by the ability to manage a partner’s excesses rather than fleeing from them. “If you can’t take or control a woman’s excesses, you are not yet a man; you’re a boy. So you have to be very careful,” Obasi stated, directly countering Edochie’s advice.
The exchange comes amid ongoing public scrutiny of Yul Edochie’s marriage to Judy Austin, which followed her separation from Obasi. Media Talk Africa reports that Obasi has also accused Judy Austin of denying him access to their children since leaving their marriage.
The public dispute has sparked widespread discussion on social media about marital expectations, gender roles, and the complexities of modern relationships in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
