Nick Foles Says Eagles Likely to Trade A.J. Brown Before Season

Nick Foles, the Philadelphia Eagles’ former quarterback and Super Bowl LII MVP, has weighed in on the ongoing speculation surrounding star wide receiver A.J. Brown and his future with the team. In a recent interview with Jeff Skversky of Fox29 in Philadelphia, Foles offered insights into the situation, suggesting that Brown’s reported dissatisfaction stems from offensive scheme frustrations during the 2024 season under then-offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.

Foles noted that Brown’s frustrations may have been justified, given the challenges posed by the offensive system at the time. He also hinted that Brown’s relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts might not be the root cause of the tension. Instead, Foles suggested that Brown’s desire to be traded is driven by a preference for specific destinations, with the New England Patriots emerging as a likely fit due to Brown’s history with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and his reported affinity for the franchise.

The Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, has not publicly dismissed the possibility of trading Brown, which Foles interprets as a strategic move. He believes Roseman is weighing the impact of Brown’s potential unhappiness on the team’s dynamics, particularly with a first-year coordinator, Sean Mannion, now in place. Foles emphasized that Roseman is likely to prioritize a resolution that benefits both Brown and the organization.

Regarding the likelihood of a trade, Foles initially estimated an 80% chance that Brown would remain with the Eagles but has since adjusted his assessment to a near 50-50 proposition. He predicts that if a trade occurs, it will likely happen before the start of the 2025 season, with the Patriots being a strong contender for Brown’s services.

The timing of any potential trade could hinge on the NFL’s post-June 1 deadline, which would allow the Eagles to manage salary cap implications more favorably. There is speculation that the Eagles and Patriots may have already reached a preliminary agreement, pending official announcements after the NFL Draft.

As the situation unfolds, the Eagles face critical decisions that could shape their roster and offensive strategy for the upcoming season.
