Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule on Friday led Senator Aliyu Wadada to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he formally introduced him to President Bola Tinubu as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State.
The meeting underscores the growing alignment between state and federal party leadership ahead of the 2027 elections. Governor Sule’s decision to present Wadada to the President reflects the importance of securing national party endorsement for his chosen successor.
Media Talk Africa recalls that Governor Sule of Nasarawa State recently announced Wadada as his preferred successor. Sule made the announcement during a meeting with political appointees at the Nasarawa State Government House.
He told the gathering that the process of identifying a successor had been ongoing for over a year, involving wide consultations that went beyond the boundaries of Nasarawa State. According to him, the consultations included discussions with foreign and prospective investors, youth groups, women organisations, traditional rulers, party officials and various stakeholders from across the state’s three senatorial zones, as well as selected members of his cabinet.
The endorsement of Wadada by Governor Sule has already generated political activity in Nasarawa State, with supporters rallying behind the senator’s candidacy. The presentation to President Tinubu is seen as a strategic move to consolidate support within the APC hierarchy and position Wadada as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Political analysts note that such high-level endorsements often play a crucial role in shaping party primaries and electoral outcomes in Nigeria’s political landscape. The Nasarawa APC is expected to hold its primary elections in the coming months, with Wadada now positioned as the frontrunner following the governor’s backing and presidential reception.
