Tesla Expands Robotaxi to Dallas and Houston

Tesla has expanded its autonomous ride-hailing service to Dallas and Houston, marking its second and third operational markets in Texas. The company announced the rollout via a brief social media post featuring a 14-second video of Tesla vehicles operating without human drivers or monitors in the front seats.

The expansion follows the launch of Tesla’s robotaxi service in Austin last year, where the company began offering rides without safety drivers in January 2026. According to a February filing, Tesla’s Austin fleet has been involved in 14 crashes since the service’s introduction.

In addition to its autonomous operations, Tesla maintains a more limited ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, the scale of operations in the newly launched markets appears modest. Crowdsourced data from the Robotaxi Tracker website currently shows only one active vehicle registered in each of Dallas and Houston, compared to 46 vehicles logged in Austin.

The expansion represents a significant step in Tesla’s push toward autonomous transportation, though the limited vehicle deployment suggests a cautious approach to scaling the service in these new urban environments.
