2027: APC regaining footing in Abia, LP losing ground – Forum

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning to its members regarding the premature endorsement of aspirants ahead of the upcoming party primaries. The state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, emphasized that such actions are unauthorized and could lead to division within the party. In a statement released on April 19, 2026, he noted that reports had surfaced about some local government chairmen publicly presenting certain individuals as “consensus candidates” for elective positions. Ojelabi pointed out that these actions violate the party’s principles of internal democracy, fairness, and due process.

The APC clarified that no official guidelines, timetable, or directives have been issued for the conduct of primaries in Lagos. Consequently, any attempts to endorse or promote aspirants at this stage are deemed premature and misleading. The party expressed concern that these activities could generate unnecessary tension, foster suspicion, and exacerbate divisions within its ranks, especially at a time when unity is essential.

Furthermore, the APC warned that disciplinary measures would be taken against any official who continues to engage in what it termed “unauthorized and destabilizing acts.” The party leadership reassured its members that all qualified aspirants would be afforded a fair and level playing field, free from intimidation or undue influence. The APC reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency, equity, and credible internal democratic processes. Party officials expected to oversee the primaries were urged to remain neutral to preserve the integrity, cohesion, and credibility of the party.
