Afrobeat star Davido has revealed that he does not want any of his children to pursue careers in the entertainment industry, instead encouraging them to work within his father’s business empire. The singer made the remarks during a recent interview with the U.S.-based radio show The Breakfast Club.
Davido explained that his decision stems from his own early struggles before finding success in music, saying he believes working in his father’s companies would offer his children a more stable and secure path. He recalled how his father, billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, initially opposed his music ambitions, a stance that Davido said dampened his enthusiasm until he proved his determination.
“My dad not wanting me in the entertainment really killed my joy until he saw that this boy is really adamant about doing this,” Davido said. “I wouldn’t want to do that to my kids as well.”
Despite his preference, Davido added that he would still support any of his children who choose to enter the entertainment world. He noted that his daughter is already showing an interest in singing and dancing.
The singer also reflected on the joy his father derives from spending time with his grandchildren, describing how Deji Adeleke takes all the grandkids on holiday every Christmas. “And my father is single. So I just saw his happiness and I’m like, meh, this is like what life is all about,” Davido said.
Davido’s comments offer a rare personal insight into the pressures and choices faced by children of high-profile African entertainers, and highlight the balancing act between legacy, family expectations, and individual passion.
