ECWA Chairman Urges Tinubu to Address Security, Economic Hardship

TEKAN/ECWA Chairman Calls for Stronger Security Measures and Economic Reforms in Northern Nigeria

The Chairman of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (TEKAN), Reverend Andemun Musa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive steps to address the ongoing security crisis in Northern Nigeria, particularly the targeted violence against Christian communities.

Reverend Musa made the appeal during the 2026 First Quarter Combined Service of TEKAN/ECWA, held in Taraba State on Sunday. He urged the federal government to intensify efforts to curb insecurity and also to implement policies aimed at reducing the economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians, especially the poor.

While acknowledging the challenges facing the nation, the cleric commended Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for improvements in security within the state and for introducing policies that have positively impacted the lives of residents.

Also speaking at the event, Bishop Ande I. Emmanuel of the United Methodist Church Nigeria, who oversees mission districts in Cameroon and Senegal, delivered a sermon titled “Be Still,” based on Psalm 46:10. He called on Christians to remain spiritually grounded amid economic, political, and social pressures.

Bishop Emmanuel warned against growing divisions within the Christian community, stressing that failure to heed the guidance of the Holy Spirit and biblical teachings could exacerbate existing challenges. “Unless we listen to the Holy Spirit and follow the direction of the Bible, a lot of things will continue to go wrong,” he said.

He further cautioned that denominational differences and internal conflicts weaken the Christian faith, noting that church affiliations or titles hold no value in eternity. “Church denominations will not take anyone to heaven, neither are there positions in heaven,” he stated, urging unity and spiritual reflection among Christians.

The call for stronger government action comes amid persistent insecurity in parts of Northern Nigeria, where communities, particularly Christian ones, have faced repeated attacks. Religious and community leaders continue to press for comprehensive security reforms and policies that address both safety and economic well-being.
