The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed confidence in the future of electoral reforms in Ondo State following the appointment of Dr Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
Dr Agboke assumed office on Monday, April 20, 2026, marking a new chapter in INEC’s electoral administration in the state. In a statement issued by the INEC Ondo State Administrative Secretary, Tadese Adenike, the Commission highlighted Agboke’s extensive background in election management and legal practice, describing him as a seasoned professional with a proven track record.
Hailing from Abeokuta in Ogun State, Dr Agboke was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He previously served with the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission between 2012 and 2016. His experience also includes overseeing the conduct of the 2019 and 2023 general elections in Ondo, Oyo, and Osun states.
The Commission emphasised that Agboke’s reputation for “integrity, transparency, and professionalism” is expected to strengthen public trust and ensure the delivery of credible, free, and fair elections in Ondo State.
With a career spanning legal practice and electoral administration, Dr Agboke brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by INEC to reinforce its commitment to electoral integrity and reform in Nigeria’s democratic process.
