Nigerian Air Force Conducts Precision Airstrikes in Sambisa Forest
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the execution of precision airstrikes within the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest, resulting in the elimination of several terrorist elements. The operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI on Monday, marks a continued effort to dismantle insurgent networks in the North-East region.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja. He emphasized that the military has maintained sustained pressure on terrorist groups operating in the area, leveraging credible intelligence and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets to identify and neutralize threats.
According to Ejodame, NAF air assets deployed precision munitions to target fortified structures and bunkers harboring active terrorist elements. The strikes successfully destroyed key infrastructure, neutralized multiple insurgents, and eliminated critical logistics facilities. A subsequent Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the effectiveness of the operation, highlighting the degradation of terrorist networks and their increasing vulnerability.
The sustained tempo of air operations has forced insurgents into reactive and desperate measures, disrupting their ability to coordinate and operate effectively. Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven air operations until terrorist elements are completely neutralized. He stressed the importance of protecting personnel, safeguarding national security, and ensuring the safety of civilians.
The NAF has pledged to maintain decisive operational pressure across the theatre while adhering strictly to rules of engagement and minimizing civilian harm. This approach underscores the force’s dedication to achieving long-term stability and security in the region.
The operation in the Sambisa Forest is part of broader efforts to counter insurgency in Nigeria, where terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have long posed significant threats to peace and security. The NAF’s continued focus on precision engagements reflects a strategic shift toward targeted operations that prioritize both effectiveness and accountability.
As the military intensifies its campaign against terrorism, the impact of these operations is expected to contribute to the gradual restoration of stability in the North-East, offering hope for affected communities and reinforcing Nigeria’s resolve to combat extremism.
