NAF airstrikes kill several terrorists in Sambisa forest — Daily Nigerian

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that precision airstrikes were carried out in the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest, eliminating several terrorist elements. The operation, conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI on Monday, is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle insurgent networks in the North‑East region.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja. He highlighted that the military has maintained sustained pressure on terrorist groups in the area, using credible intelligence and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets to identify and neutralize threats. According to Ejodame, NAF air assets deployed precision munitions against fortified structures and bunkers housing active terrorist elements. The strikes destroyed key infrastructure, neutralized multiple insurgents, and eliminated critical logistics facilities. A subsequent Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the operation’s effectiveness, showing a degradation of terrorist networks and increasing their vulnerability.

The continued tempo of air operations has forced insurgents into reactive and desperate measures, disrupting their ability to coordinate and operate effectively. Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to intensifying intelligence‑driven air operations until terrorist elements are completely neutralized. He emphasized the importance of protecting personnel, safeguarding national security, and ensuring civilian safety. The NAF has pledged to maintain decisive operational pressure across the theatre while strictly adhering to rules of engagement and minimizing civilian harm, underscoring its dedication to long‑term stability and security in the region.

The Sambisa Forest operation is part of broader efforts to counter insurgency in Nigeria, where groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have long threatened peace and security. The NAF’s focus on precision engagements reflects a strategic shift toward targeted operations that prioritize both effectiveness and accountability. As the military intensifies its campaign against terrorism, these operations are expected to contribute to the gradual restoration of stability in the North‑East, offering hope to affected communities and reinforcing Nigeria’s resolve to combat extremism.
