PDP Aspirant Urges Nigerians to Choose Credible Leaders 2027

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Amadu Amuzu, has called on Nigerians to exercise greater responsibility in selecting leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a town‑hall meeting with residents of Abeokuta South, Amuzu stressed that democracy yields tangible benefits only when voters make informed choices and elect candidates of integrity and competence.

Amuzu, who is positioning himself for the 2027 election cycle, warned that Nigeria’s development trajectory lags behind many other nations. He recounted his experiences traveling abroad, noting the stark contrast between the infrastructure and institutional frameworks he observed overseas and those prevailing in Nigeria. “I feel ashamed when I travel out and see the level of development in other countries,” he said. “Nigerians may not truly enjoy democracy until citizens begin to vote the right individuals into office as both a personal and collective responsibility.”

The PDP aspirant identified chronic deficits in infrastructure and public institutions as major impediments to progress. He highlighted persistent problems such as unreliable electricity, inadequate potable water, and deteriorating road networks, describing these as basic governmental responsibilities that should not be politicised. According to Amuzu, sustainable national development depends on electing leaders who possess both competence and ethical standards, and on citizens’ willingness to support such leadership.

Amuzu urged voters to place national interest above sectarian or personal considerations. He cautioned against voting based on religion, party affiliation, or financial inducements, labeling such practices “the politics of rice and money.” “As we approach 2027, we must shun the politics of rice and money. I am here to serve, not to make empty promises. Together, we can make a difference,” he declared.

Referring to a pattern he described as “the worst of us have ruled the best of us,” Amuzu blamed a lack of integrity and patriotism for the repeated election of underperforming leaders. He called on Nigerians to hold elected officials accountable and to use their votes to demand better performance.

In line with his message, Amuzu encouraged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the current voter‑registration drive and secure Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in time for the 2027 polls. He emphasized that broad participation in the electoral process is essential for steering the country toward a more prosperous future.

The remarks come as Nigeria prepares for a series of elections slated for 2027, with several parties fielding candidates for federal and state positions. Observers note that voter engagement and the credibility of candidates will be critical factors in shaping the nation’s political and economic direction.
