Roby Ekpo Served Cease‑and‑Desist Over Defamatory Marriage Claims, N100M Demand

Mayowa Lambe has served a cease‑and‑desist notice on her former husband, media personality Roby Ekpo, over statements he made about their former marriage. The legal letter, signed by attorney Chinedu Nwaneli, gives Ekpo 48 hours to remove the online post, issue a retraction and apology, and pay N100 million in damages for defamation, or face further legal action.

Ekpo’s comments were aired during an interview on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he became emotional while describing the discovery that Lambe had married another man abroad without an official divorce. He alleged that he had supported Lambe’s travel abroad, that she had used contraceptives throughout their 11‑year marriage, and that he had made regular financial transfers to her unaware that she was cohabiting with another partner. Ekpo said he “woke up to videos and pictures of my wife on Instagram getting married to another man,” and claimed he had visited hospitals for fertility concerns while continuing to send money.

The interview sparked a wave of public reaction. Some users accused Lambe of exploiting Ekpo, while others called for her side of the story to be heard. The legal notice states, “There is no existing marital relationship. There is verifiable evidence contradicting these claims.”

According to DAILY POST, Lambe and Ekpo first connected on Instagram in 2015 after Lambe sent a direct message to Ekto. They married a few months later following a brief courtship.

The dispute highlights the growing intersection of personal relationships and digital platforms, where private matters quickly become public. Lambe’s legal team seeks to curb further dissemination of Ekpo’s statements, emphasizing the potential for defamation claims when personal allegations are broadcast online. The next steps will depend on whether Ekpo complies with the cease‑and‑desist or if the matter proceeds to court.
