Olakunle Churchill Declares No Legal Marriage to Rosy Meurer

Actress Tonto Dikeh’s former husband, Olakunle Churchill, has denied the existence of a legally recognized marriage with his current wife, Roseline Meurer, amidst circulating rumours of a marital split.

According to a report by Daily Post, Meurer filed for divorce after Churchill was reportedly reconciled with his ex‑spouse, former actress turned evangelist Tonto Dikeh. The claim sparked online speculation, prompting Churchill to respond on Instagram on Wednesday.

In a series of posts, Churchill described the divorce allegations as “baseless.” He asserted that his relationship with Meurer never progressed beyond an introduction and that no formal marriage—civil or religious—had ever taken place. Consequently, he argued, there is no legal basis for a divorce proceeding.

“The reports circulating online about a supposed divorce between myself and Roseline Meurer are completely false. There was no legally recognized marriage. There was no church wedding and no court wedding,” Churchill wrote. He added that any legitimate legal action would require formal service of documents and an opportunity for the accused to respond, neither of which he received.

He questioned the authenticity of the divorce papers that had been shared online, suggesting they were produced by “individuals without proper experience in the media space” and “legal practitioners who operate under a mango tree without due process.” Churchill claimed the documents appeared to have been generated within 24 hours, further casting doubt on their legitimacy.

No court records or official filings confirming a marriage or a divorce have been made public. Meurer’s legal representative has not commented on the matter, and neither party has indicated plans to pursue formal litigation at this stage.

The dispute adds another chapter to the highly publicised personal lives of both parties. Churchill’s previous marriage to Dikeh, which ended in 2020, attracted significant media attention, and Dikeh’s recent conversion to evangelical Christianity has kept her in the public eye.

If Meurer proceeds with formal divorce proceedings, the case would likely be filed in a Nigerian civil court, where the court would require proof of a valid marriage before granting a dissolution. Until such documentation is presented, the claims remain unsubstantiated.

The controversy underscores the challenges of verifying personal legal matters in the age of social media, where rumors can spread rapidly without corroborating evidence. Both Churchill and Meurer have so far refrained from further public statements, leaving the true status of their relationship unclear.
