Kano State Governor Abba Kano Yusuf announced that former commissioner Murtala Sule Garo has been nominated as the state’s new deputy governor. In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf said Garo was selected after a thorough evaluation of several candidates, citing his “experience, competence and commitment to Kano’s development” as decisive factors.
The announcement came during the 39th Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Kano. Yusuf explained that the administration required a deputy who could effectively support its development agenda and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress. Following the governor’s recommendation, Garo’s name was forwarded to the State House of Assembly last week after the resignation of former deputy governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
The Assembly acted promptly, screening and confirming Garo’s nomination. Governor Yusuf praised the legislators, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for their swift approval. He added that the swearing‑in ceremony would take place in the near future and urged the public to cooperate with the new deputy governor in the discharge of his duties.
In the same briefing, Yusuf also congratulated Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota on her recent appointment as Kano State Head of Service. He highlighted her past contributions in various civil‑service roles and called on civil servants and stakeholders to support her as she assumes the senior position.
The appointments come as Kano’s government seeks to reinforce its executive team ahead of upcoming development projects and policy initiatives. The deputy governor’s role is expected to be pivotal in coordinating state‑wide programs, while the Head of Service will oversee the implementation of administrative reforms across ministries. Both officials are slated to begin their responsibilities shortly, signaling a swift transition in the state’s leadership structure.
