Adesua Etomi-Wellington: Love Grows 10 Years Post Banky W

Adesua Etomi‑Wellington, the actress married to Nigerian singer‑songwriter, politician and clergyman Banky W, said her marriage has grown stronger as they approach a decade together. The comments were made during an interview hosted by Teju Babyface with the couple participating.

Etomi‑Wellington explained that she had originally prayed not to marry a musician, pastor or politician, only to find that her husband embodies all three roles. “Before I met my husband, I told God I didn’t want to marry a musician, a pastor or a politician, but God gave me all three,” she said.

Banky W added that the couple’s union was confirmed after a series of rejections from Etomi‑Wellington. He disclosed that he had been certain she was his wife for about 18 months but waited for her to acknowledge the relationship. “Adesua called me one day and said, ‘Banky, you know you’re my husband right?’” the singer recalled. Her affirmation, he said, reinforced his own conviction and led to their wedding.

The couple married in 2017 in a ceremony that blended their respective cultural traditions. Since then they have welcomed two children, further solidifying their family unit.

Their partnership is notable in Nigeria’s entertainment and political spheres, where both partners maintain high public profiles. Banky W, born Olubankole Olufemi Akpobome, is recognized for his contributions to Afro‑pop music, his brief tenure as a legislator representing the Lagos State constituency, and his role as a pastor in the House on the Rock church. Etomi‑Wellington, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, has earned acclaim for performances in films such as “The Wedding Party” and “Fifty Fifty.”

The interview highlighted how their shared faith and mutual support have helped them navigate the challenges of dual careers in the spotlight. Both emphasized the importance of communication, patience and divine guidance in sustaining a lasting marriage.

As they near their tenth anniversary, Etomi‑Wellington and Banky W continue to be seen as a prominent example of a high‑profile Nigerian couple balancing professional ambitions with family life. Their ongoing collaboration in various charitable projects and public engagements suggests the partnership will remain influential in both the entertainment industry and broader social discourse.
