Katsina, Nigeria – Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections. The nomination was confirmed unopposed following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Katsina on Tuesday, 28 April.
The consensus was announced by Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, Chairman of the APC Consensus Committee for Daura Zone and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Dangiwa declared that Yusuf Buhari was unanimously adopted as the party’s candidate after deliberations among local party leaders and influential stakeholders.
In a statement after the adoption, Mannir Musa, APC Chairman of Mai’adua Local Government, called on party members to respect the decision and work toward unity. “I urge all our people to be obedient and accept the consensus reached by the committee and stakeholders in good faith. We should all work together for the unity and progress of the party and our people,” Musa said. He also appealed to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda to extend support to aspirants who did not receive tickets, encouraging them to continue serving their constituencies.
The consensus process also produced automatic candidates for other contests in the state. Nasir Yahaya was named the APC candidate for the Daura senatorial seat, while Mustapha Musa secured the party’s ticket for the Mai’adua constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
Addressing supporters after his nomination, Yusuf Buhari expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and pledged to deliver “quality representation” to the constituents of Daura, Sandamu, and Mai’adua if elected.
The APC’s consensus‑based nominations reflect the party’s effort to present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections, a pivotal contest that will shape Nigeria’s federal and state legislatures. The party’s next steps include mobilising grassroots campaigns and finalising campaign strategies across the three local government areas within the federal constituency.
