The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Siminialayi Fubara, has refuted reports that he was disqualified as the party’s standard‑bearer for the upcoming election in Rivers State. Speaking at a town‑hall organized by the state PDP campaign council in Port Harcourt, Fubara affirmed that he remains the candidate and expressed confidence that he will win the rescheduled election next Saturday.
Social media had been flooded with claims that the Supreme Court had disqualified Fubara as the Rivers PDP candidate. Dismissing these rumors, he said, “Today is a very special day because many of you have been longing to see me. In one of the debates, the anchor kept accusing me of running away and not wanting to attend. But you are seeing me here today. By the grace of God, I am still the PDP candidate, despite the social‑media rumors. We will contest the election in that capacity, and with your support, I am sure victory is already assured.”
Fubara outlined his priorities if elected governor. He pledged to promote economic growth, ensure that every child has access to basic education, and tackle the out‑of‑school and dropout problems in communities. He also promised to coordinate economic incentives to attract investors and industrial development, creating jobs for vulnerable populations and reducing the lure of criminal activity.
During the meeting, other participants urged the PDP gubernatorial candidate to revamp the state’s health sector and address additional pressing issues.
