Eniola Badmus Challenges Funke Akindele to Celebrity Boxing Match, Seeks Sponsors

Popular Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has publicly challenged fellow star Funke Akindele to a celebrity boxing match, urging potential sponsors to fund the event.

The challenge follows a recent celebrity boxing bout in which Nigerian streamer Carter Efe defeated rapper Portable on Friday, securing the ₦50 million prize. After the fight, Lagos‑based entrepreneur E‑Money awarded Carter Efe an additional ₦50 million in celebration of his victory. According to Daily Post, talent manager and music executive Soso Soberekon had previously contributed ₦40 million each to Carter Efe and Portable ahead of the match.

In a viral Instagram post, Badmus invited Akindele to the boxing ring, writing, “Funke Akindele, let’s get on the boxing ring. It’s about time. Soso, E‑Money, let’s get to it. No time. Money has to be made.” Badmus also called on Soberekon and E‑Money to sponsor the proposed bout.

Celebrity boxing has gained momentum in Nigeria as a revenue‑generating spectacle that blends entertainment with sport. The Carter Efe–Portable contest demonstrated the format’s commercial potential, drawing considerable media attention and substantial financial backing.

Badmus’s invitation adds to the growing list of Nigerian entertainers exploring the arena. If Akindele accepts, the match could further elevate the profile of celebrity boxing in the country and attract additional corporate sponsorship.

No official response from Akindele or the named sponsors has been reported. Organizers and parties involved have yet to confirm dates, venue, or financial arrangements for a potential Badmus–Akindele bout.
