FCMB Group Plc has appointed Adepeju Adebajo, former chief executive of Lafarge Africa Plc, as an independent non‑executive director on its board. The appointment was disclosed in a filing to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Friday and has been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Adebajo brings more than three decades of experience across industry, renewable energy, agriculture, finance and consulting. Her career spans senior roles in companies operating in Sub‑Saharan Africa and Europe, where she has led teams and advised clients on growth and impact strategies. The group said her broad leadership background is expected to strengthen governance and strategic execution as FCMB pursues its transformation and growth objectives.
Adebajo holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She currently chairs the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and serves as transformation lead at Etex Group, which includes Nigerite and Emenite Limited. Her previous positions include chief executive officer of Lafarge Africa’s cement business, as well as CEO roles at Mouka Limited, Lumos Nigeria and UTC Nigeria Plc. Early in her career she was assistant general manager at United Bank for Africa Plc.
In 2025 Adebajo founded the Climate Governance Initiative Nigeria, an affiliate of the World Economic Forum, and she serves on the Forum’s Council on Climate and Nature Governance for the 2025‑2027 term, underscoring her involvement in sustainability and corporate governance.
FCMB Group stated that the board appointment aligns with its plan to reinforce board effectiveness and support the company’s strategic direction. The CBN’s endorsement confirms compliance with regulatory requirements for board composition.
The addition of Adebajo to FCMB’s board reflects a broader trend among Nigerian financial institutions to augment board expertise with leaders who have cross‑sector experience and a track record in sustainability. FCMB has not announced any immediate changes to its board composition beyond this appointment.
