Engr. Ososa Iyawe, the federal lawmaker for Oredo Federal Constituency, has dismissed reports that he resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and withdrew from the 2027 House of Representatives race. Iyawe said a purported resignation letter circulating on social media was forged by “over‑zealous individuals” within his media circle and some party loyalists.
The Media Talk Africa cited a letter dated May 6, 2026, addressed to Ward 1 of Oredo Local Government Area, in which Iyawe allegedly announced his departure from the APC, citing irreconcilable differences with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo. The document also claimed he intended to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and had withdrawn his expression of interest to contest the 2027 elections on the APC platform.
In a press statement signed and released to journalists on May 9, 2026, in Benin City, Iyawe refuted the claims. “My attention has been drawn to a purported resignation letter currently circulating on social media and other platforms, alleging my withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and my resignation from the party,” he said. “I wish to categorically state that the said letter does not represent my position and was issued without my authorisation by certain over‑zealous individuals within my media circle and some loyalists acting outside the scope of my directives.”
Iyawe affirmed his continued membership in the APC and his intention to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election. He added that he is engaged in “constructive consultations and ongoing engagements” with the party’s Edo State leadership on matters affecting the party and his constituency. “These discussions are being carried out in the spirit of unity, mutual respect and progressive development,” he said.
He urged party members, supporters, and the public to disregard the alleged letter and any misinformation surrounding it, reiterating his commitment to the APC’s ideals and to the development of Oredo Constituency and Edo State. Iyawe also thanked supporters for their concern, support, and solidarity during the episode.
The incident highlights the challenges politicians face from unfounded rumors and internal party disputes, emphasizing the importance of verified communication in Nigeria’s political landscape.
