The Federal Ministry of Works announced that portions of the Ikorodu‑Sagamu Road will be partially closed from Monday to enable the completion of ongoing reconstruction works. The decision was disclosed by Olayiwola Komolafe, Federal Controller of Works for Ogun State, in a statement released on Saturday.
The closures follow a directive from the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, which instructed the principal contractor, Arab Contractors, to resume work on critical sections of the highway. The aim is to accelerate the project’s timetable and ensure timely delivery of the upgraded route.
According to the controller, the affected stretches include the segment from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos State and the portion extending from Cement to Coca‑Cola in the inward direction of Sagamu, Ogun State. Traffic between Ikorodu and Sagamu will be diverted through designated construction corridors using a counter‑flow arrangement. The diversion is expected to remain in place for approximately three months, allowing for the execution of works and the curing of the newly laid rigid pavement.
To manage the altered traffic patterns, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed along the affected corridors. Komolafe appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic managers and law‑enforcement officers to ensure smooth flow and safety during the construction period.
The ministry expressed regret for any inconvenience the reconstruction may cause road users and emphasized that the temporary disruptions are necessary to deliver a safer, more durable highway. The completed works are anticipated to improve connectivity between Lagos and the interior regions of Ogun State, supporting regional trade and mobility.
