Air Peace suspends Lagos-London flight over technical fault

Air Peace has temporarily halted its Lagos‑London Gatwick service after a minor technical fault was detected during a routine post‑boarding inspection. The airline announced the suspension on its official X account on Saturday, stating that the issue was identified shortly after passengers had boarded and that the aircraft was withdrawn from operation in accordance with standard safety protocols.

The carrier confirmed that all passengers were safely de‑boarded while engineers addressed the fault. “At Air Peace, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew will always take precedence over operational schedules,” the statement read. The airline added that the decision to suspend the flight was made to prevent any risk to passengers and crew, despite the inconvenience caused.

Affected travellers were promptly notified and offered hotel accommodation as well as other support services. Air Peace also arranged for a replacement aircraft to depart from London, aiming to resume the flight later the same morning. “To minimise further disruption, a replacement aircraft from London will be dispatched and passengers are scheduled to depart this morning,” the airline said.

The Lagos‑London route is one of Air Peace’s flagship international services, linking Nigeria’s commercial hub with the United Kingdom’s capital region. The airline has experienced rapid growth since its inception in 2013, expanding its fleet and network across Africa, Europe and the Middle East. While the temporary suspension impacts a small number of passengers, the incident underscores the carrier’s adherence to rigorous safety standards.

Air Peace has not indicated any further delays or cancellations for other flights. The airline thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to safe and reliable operations. No injuries were reported, and there were no indications of a broader technical problem affecting the fleet.

The incident highlights the importance of routine inspections in commercial aviation and demonstrates how airlines respond swiftly to technical anomalies to safeguard passengers. Air Peace’s prompt communication and provision of alternative arrangements are consistent with industry best practices for managing unforeseen service disruptions. The airline is expected to resume its regular schedule once the replacement aircraft completes the journey and passengers are re‑booked.
