Falcons sign OL Brandon Walton following tryout

Veteran offensive lineman Brandon Walton has been added to the Atlanta Falcons roster, according to a report from Fox Sports. The 28‑year‑old joined the team after a tryout stint at the Falcons’ rookie minicamp earlier this month.

Walton entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020 after finishing his collegiate career at Florida Atlantic. He signed with the Buffalo Bills but was released during training camp. A brief spell on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad followed before he earned a spot on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ active roster in 2021.

During his two seasons with the Buccaneers, Walton appeared in 15 games, starting twice in the 2022‑23 campaign. He then signed with the Carolina Panthers, where he was used primarily as a depth option, logging four game appearances across the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

The Falcons’ decision to sign Walton adds experienced depth to an offensive line that has faced injuries and turnover in recent years. Coach Arthur Smith’s staff will evaluate Walton’s fit during the upcoming training camp, with the expectation that his versatility—able to play both guard and tackle positions—will provide valuable insurance for the starting unit.

Walton’s journey reflects the increasingly fluid nature of NFL roster construction, where undrafted players often carve out multi‑year careers through perseverance and adaptability. His addition to the Falcons underscores the franchise’s emphasis on competitive depth as it aims to improve its offensive performance in the 2024 season.

If Walton secures a spot on the final 53‑man roster, he will join a Falcons offensive line that includes veterans and emerging talent, all seeking to protect quarterback Desmond Ridder and open lanes for the running game. The team’s next steps involve a series of preseason matchups that will determine the final composition of the line and the role Walton is expected to play.
