Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has warned that Arsenal must continue winning their remaining Premier League fixtures if they hope to secure the title. His analysis follows the weekend’s results, which left both Arsenal and Manchester City level on points. On Saturday, Arsenal narrowly defeated West Ham United 1-0 at the London Stadium, while City delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Emirates the previous day. These outcomes resulted in both clubs being tied on 80 points, with Arsenal initially holding a five-point advantage but facing a tougher remaining schedule.
Carragher emphasized that Arsenal’s chances depend not only on maintaining their lead but also on the margin of City’s upcoming victories. He stated, “If City can beat Crystal Palace by three or four goals, the goal-difference swing could put real pressure on Arsenal.” He further noted that a significant goal-difference advantage for Manchester City going into the final round would make a draw for Arsenal feel particularly costly. Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures include a home match against Burnley and an away game at Crystal Palace, while City still has to face Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa in their final three matches.
Carragher cautioned that although Arsenal’s five-point cushion may seem comfortable on paper, the Gunners cannot afford any slip-ups. “The title race is effectively a race against the clock,” he added. “If Arsenal do not keep winning, they risk handing Manchester City a pathway to overtake them on goal difference, which could ultimately decide the championship.” His comments come as both clubs prepare for the decisive closing weeks of the season. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stressed the importance of consistency, while City’s Pep Guardiola will be looking to restore the team’s attacking potency following a relatively modest win at Brentford.
As the league enters its final stretch, the battle for supremacy appears set to hinge on goal margins as much as points. Should either side falter, the other will be ready to seize the initiative. For Arsenal, the imperative is clear: keep winning, or risk seeing their title hopes slip away.
