The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revised the timetable for its upcoming primary elections, the party said in a statement released on Wednesday. The amendment, signed jointly by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong and National Organising Secretary Theophilus Dakas Shan, follows “appeals from stakeholders and aspirants across the country.”
According to the statement, the new schedule shortens the period for purchasing nomination forms, which will now close on 15 May. Completed forms must be submitted by 18 May, and the screening of aspirants is set for 19 May. Screening will be conducted at the state level for candidates contesting National Assembly and State Assembly seats, while those seeking gubernatorial or presidential nominations will be screened in Abuja.
All other activities in the primary calendar remain unchanged, the party affirmed. The PDP’s decision to compress the early stages of the process aims to address concerns raised by party members and ensure a smoother progression toward the final nomination of candidates.
The revised timetable comes as the PDP prepares for a series of internal elections that will determine its slate of candidates for upcoming national and state contests. By adjusting the dates, the party leadership seeks to maintain momentum and avoid procedural bottlenecks that could affect the credibility of the selection process.
Stakeholders are expected to adhere to the new deadlines, and the INWC has urged aspirants to complete their documentation promptly. The next steps will involve further vetting and ultimately the selection of candidates who will represent the PDP in forthcoming general elections.
