Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma met with All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants and party stakeholders on May 15 at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Owerri, to outline expectations ahead of the party’s primary elections.
The governor called for loyalty, discipline and sacrifice, stressing that primaries are a test of courage rather than a lottery. He warned aspirants against desperation and urged them to remain committed to the APC before, during and after the voting process.
Uzodinma cautioned candidates to assess the risks of contesting, noting that some individuals might be tempted to divert funds intended for their children’s education to purchase forms. To promote transparency, the party will use the Option A4 voting system for the primaries, a method designed to limit accusations of favoritism where consensus arrangements fail.
The governor also reminded participants to respect existing equity and rotation formulas in their communities. He announced the formation of an APC Primary Conduct Committee and an Appeal Committee to address any disputes that may arise. While acknowledging the large number of aspirants for various elective positions, Uzodinma expressed confidence that the exercise could deliver a “win‑win” outcome for all involved.
APC State Chairman Austin Onyedebelu echoed the governor’s messages, reaffirming the party’s commitment to unity, reconciliation and electoral success in the upcoming general elections. He said the State Executive Committee has taken steps to reposition the APC for greater efficiency and progress, and that mechanisms are in place to manage grievances and ensure a peaceful primary process.
The gathering underscores the APC’s effort to tighten internal discipline and project a cohesive front as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle.
The primaries, scheduled to commence today, will be closely watched as a barometer of the party’s organisational strength and its ability to field competitive candidates across Imo State.
