The Taraba State chapter of the Labour Party has denied that Evangelist Philip Munlip endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Col. Kefas Agbu (retd), on the party’s behalf. In a media briefing on Sunday in Jalingo, state party chairperson Mrs. Esther Gulmu said Munlip’s actions were a mischievous attempt to tarnish the party’s image in the state.

Mrs. Gulmu explained that Evangelist Munlip, who previously contested the Labour Party’s governorship ticket against Senator Joel Ikenya, held a press conference on Wednesday in which he claimed to endorse the PDP candidate. She emphasized that Munlip is not the party’s governorship candidate and therefore lacks any moral or legal authority to endorse anyone on behalf of the Labour Party in Taraba.

“Our governorship candidate is Senator Joel Ikenya, not Evangelist Philip Munlip. We have not endorsed any candidate; we are still in the race,” Gulmu asserted. She described Munlip’s action as condemnable and urged everyone to disregard it, stating that he is desperate to damage the party’s reputation and its candidates.

“We urge the good people of Taraba State to ignore the purported endorsement and continue to place their full faith and support in the Labour Party to take over Taraba,” she added.

In response, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Senator Ikenya, assured the electorate that he would develop the state if elected next Saturday and called on voters to turn out massively for the Labour Party for the benefit of Taraba.
