President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) congratulated Xi Jinping on his re‑election to a third five‑year term as President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China. The congratulatory message was released in a statement by the President’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Sunday in Abuja.
President Buhari noted that, under President Xi’s leadership, relations between China and Nigeria—formal diplomatic ties that date back to 1971—have expanded rapidly in bilateral trade and strategic cooperation. He expressed hope that the strategic partnership will continue to blossom, achieving significant progress in military, political, trade, finance, oil and gas relations.
Buhari also affirmed his belief that the partnership will extend to cooperation in telecommunications, agriculture, infrastructure development, and manufacturing sectors. He wished the government and people of China continued peace, progress and prosperity under President Xi’s able and trusted leadership.
