Nigerian youth leaders, representing the Conference of State Youth Parliament Speakers, appealed to President‑elect Bola Tinubu on Monday to use his victory to positively impact the country’s burgeoning youth population, who are eager to contribute to Africa’s largest economy. The conference, an offshoot of the National and State Assemblies established under the 2019 Youth Policy Act, aims to create a platform for developing and empowering Nigerian youths, enabling them to realize their potential, build leadership capacities, propose actionable policies, and implement community‑impact projects.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Fawole Opeyemi, the youth leaders urged Tinubu to adopt a philosophy of youth inclusion and empowerment across all zones of his administration. Quoting conference chairman Toba Fatunla, the statement emphasized that strengthening the youth system would give young Nigerians a sense of belonging and fulfillment. Fatunla said, “We congratulate President‑elect Bola Tinubu on his electoral victory in the February 25 presidential election. Nigerian youths, under the auspices of the Youth Parliament, call on Tinubu to embrace youth inclusion, empowerment, and system strengthening.”
He added that youth inclusion is a key indicator of good governance in a democracy, while empowerment enhances young people’s capacity to add value to the economy, and system strengthening bolsters their confidence in the country. “Youth development is a sure panacea to insecurity and underdevelopment,” Fatunla asserted, stressing that productive Nigerian youths are ready to apply their talent, energy, and creativity to the economy, provided they operate in an enabling environment.
