A chilling abduction has shaken Ibadan as gunmen snatched the younger sister of former Power Minister Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, during a school run on Wednesday morning. The attack occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Elewura area of Challenge, marking the latest in a troubling wave of kidnappings across Oyo State.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her sons Peter and Paul, were forcefully taken from their vehicle while en route to drop the boys at school. Femi Awogboro, a media aide to Adelabu, confirmed the incident in a statement, detailing that the abductors targeted the mother and her children without mercy.
Security forces have been alerted and are actively investigating, with rescue efforts underway. The family, though deeply shaken, expressed faith in the authorities to secure the safe return of their loved ones. They appealed to the public for calm, urging people to avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder the operation. “We solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period,” the statement read.
This abduction comes just 20 days after 47 students and teachers were kidnapped in Ahoro Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, raising concerns about escalating insecurity in the region. As of press time, the Oyo State Police Command had not issued an official statement.
