AIICO Insurance Plc has thrown its weight behind a major malaria prevention campaign in Ibadan, Oyo State, signaling a deeper push into public health and community development. The initiative, run alongside the nonprofit HACEY, targeted more than 5,000 residents across four Primary Health Centres in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The outreach zeroed in on the most vulnerable: pregnant women and nursing mothers. They received not just health education but also critical tools to stave off a disease that remains a stubborn scourge in Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria accounts for nearly a quarter of all global malaria cases, a statistic that underscores the urgency of sustained, on-the-ground action.
Segun Olalandu, AIICO’s Head of Marketing and Communication, emphasized that the company’s support went beyond talk. “This was about strengthening awareness, promoting preventive behaviors, and improving access to life-saving tools in high-risk communities,” he said in a statement.
As part of the effort, 600 long-lasting insecticidal nets were handed out. Structured health sessions drilled down on prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. The goal: to turn knowledge into lasting habit.
Abimbola Shobanjo, AIICO’s Manager of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, framed the initiative as a core duty, not a charitable sideline. “Malaria continues to pose a significant threat to maternal and child health in Nigeria. Addressing it requires deliberate, sustained action at the community level,” she said. “We see social impact as a core part of our responsibility, not an add-on. This outreach reflects our commitment to giving vulnerable populations the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves and their families.”
The campaign marks another step in AIICO’s broader mission to embed itself in the social fabric of the communities it serves, one net, one lesson, one life at a time.
