Tinubu’s Gombe campaigner denies death threat to parents

The Gombe State Coordinator of the Shettima/Tinubu Campaign Council, Jamilu Gwamna, denied threatening mothers in the state that they would lose their children if they voted for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next Saturday’s elections. He made the statement at a press conference in Gombe, refuting allegations by PDP campaign office spokesman Ayuba Aluke that he had threatened parents in Bolari West over their votes.

Gwamna emphasized that the opposition PDP has shown desperation over time and stressed that he would never wish death upon any Gombe resident for political reasons. “I went to canvass votes for my party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election,” he said. “It is an area I’m proud of and a street that is dear to my heart. I gathered people to seek their support for my party and urged them to vote for Governor Inuwa. It was a passionate appeal; nowhere did I say that anyone’s mother would give birth to another child.”

He clarified a previous warning about the PDP’s use of thugs in the area: “Last time, the PDP brought a lot of thugs to that area. We only warned them that this time around those ‘area boys’ should not dare act because anyone who comes near the ballot box that day we will remove them,” he explained, adding that he used a Hausa expression that was later misinterpreted as a threat of killing. “That is not so,” he affirmed.

Commenting on the spread of the rumored threat, Gwamna called it “a typical PDP desperate move, their desperate propaganda. To twist something that is not there is the height of incivility. This is not politics; it’s just desperation.” He urged people to consider his past actions, noting that he means no harm to anyone, especially the people of Gombe State, who are dear to his heart. “I will not engage in anything that will lead to loss of lives for anything,” he said.

Regarding the APC’s prospects in the governorship poll, Gwamna expressed confidence: “By the grace of God, we are on a good footing and I believe we will be successful on Saturday. We will be victorious on Saturday, inshallah.”
