Poll: I didn’t step down for Sanwo-Olu –NNPP candidate

The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Lagos State, Olanrewaju Jim‑Kamal, has publicly denied any endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu by the Alliance of Registered Political Parties. He clarified that he was not involved in the declaration and that the inclusion of his name and the NNPP was a sign of desperation on the part of Sanwo‑Olu and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he says has lost the support of Lagos residents.

In a brief statement obtained by journalists on Tuesday, Jim‑Kamal said, “My attention has been drawn to a press statement by a group called the Alliance of Registered Political Parties in which its members purportedly declared support for the APC candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Lagos State. More disturbing, and a sign that the incumbent governor and his party are desperate, is the fact that the NNPP and I were included in that declaration.” He emphasized that the NNPP does not support the APC and is contesting the election independently.

Jim‑Kamal warned that the unauthorized use of his name and party could only occur in a “near‑lawless country” and by a party that has failed the Nigerian people. He urged Lagosians to ignore threats from “street hoodlums and louts” and to come out to vote on Saturday to remove Sanwo‑Olu and the APC from office.
