NAIROBI, Kenya — A murder investigation has been launched after a post-mortem confirmed that a motorist died from multiple stab wounds sustained during a suspected road rage attack along Mombasa Road near Nyayo Stadium.
Kennedy Ng’eno, the victim, suffered approximately five stab wounds, including a fatal injury that penetrated his heart, according to autopsy results released this week. The findings corroborate witness accounts that the killing followed a violent confrontation triggered by a minor traffic collision in the early hours of August 1.
Closed-circuit television footage obtained from the scene shows three vehicles stopping along Mombasa Road at approximately 4:36 a.m. The recording captures an argument escalating into a physical altercation, during which the suspect allegedly attacks one man before pursuing Ng’eno and stabbing him repeatedly with what lawyers describe as a sharp object.
Ng’eno collapsed at the scene and was rushed to hospital by friends several minutes later but succumbed to his injuries.
Family representative Malone Victor confirmed the autopsy findings. “The doctor gave us the report that showed that Ken’s life was ended by a stab to his heart, which penetrated his heart. There were around five stab wounds and many more on his hand,” he said.
Family lawyer Gideon Kipyegon stated that multiple witnesses saw the suspect armed with a knife during the confrontation. “We have enough witnesses to prove that this case was a case of stabbing… All the witnesses who were present saw the knife. It’s only that the knife went with the perpetrator, and we hope that during the interrogation in court he will be able to produce the murder weapon,” Kipyegon said.
The prime suspect is currently detained at Industrial Area Police Station. Detectives are expected to seek custodial orders on Wednesday to allow further investigation. Makadara Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Hassan Ahmed Abdullahi said authorities had been pursuing the suspect since the incident occurred on August 1.
“We’ve been looking for this guy. Now he has been arrested. He’ll be taken to court tomorrow for custodial orders so that we finish our investigations,” Abdullahi said.
The vehicle linked to the confrontation has been impounded at the DCI’s Makadara offices as investigators process forensic evidence.
