Convex has raised $57 million in Series B funding to scale development of its AI-native backend platform. Insight Partners led the financing round, which included participation from Etna Labs and existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Spark Capital. The latest round brings Convex’s total funding to $110.5 million.
Founded in 2021 by former Dropbox infrastructure engineers, Convex provides a fully integrated backend platform that combines databases, functions, workflows, search, synchronization, authentication and file storage in a single system. The company says it will use the new capital to mature its core platform, improve agentic development tooling and expand its San Francisco-based team.
The investment reflects a broader shift toward AI-assisted coding and autonomous development tooling. Convex argues that traditional backend infrastructure struggles to support the growing use of AI coding agents. According to internal testing, 90 percent of AI-built applications running on conventional databases experienced data corruption during real-world use, while applications built on Convex’s platform completed the same tests without failures.
The platform includes built-in ACID transactions, end-to-end type safety, real-time subscriptions and TypeScript support. These features reduce the need for developers to manually integrate multiple services while improving application reliability. Convex also packages search capabilities, workflow automation, authentication, file storage and retrieval-augmented generation features that extend AI applications with organization-specific knowledge.
Adoption has grown rapidly. Convex now supports nearly two million applications created by almost 500,000 developers worldwide, with more than 1.2 million weekly npm downloads. Customers include OpenAI, Tripadvisor, Solana, Zapier and Reducto, which use the platform to simplify backend development while supporting applications that require dependable performance at scale.
Insight Partners said the growing use of AI coding assistants has exposed weaknesses in traditional software infrastructure. The firm believes Convex offers developers a more reliable foundation where backend components work together without extensive configuration.
Convex plans to accelerate product innovation as AI transforms software engineering. The company will fund new tools that simplify application development for both human developers and AI agents building software. Leadership says stable backend infrastructure becomes increasingly essential as artificial intelligence generates larger amounts of application code.
By providing a unified platform instead of separate components, Convex aims to reduce complexity and prevent software bugs. The fresh capital will strengthen its engineering team while expanding its global developer ecosystem and platform capabilities. With a growing customer base and new funding, Convex seeks to solidify its position in the emerging AI development infrastructure market by making reliable software engineering faster and easier for both human developers and AI agents.
