Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accessible, affordable and quality education, charging the newly inaugurated Governing Council of Kaduna State University to provide visionary leadership that strengthens the institution and enhances academic excellence.
Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe delivered the charge on behalf of Governor Senator Uba Sani during the council’s inauguration at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna. She said the administration remains committed to investing in schools, teachers, skills development, innovation and higher education as part of its broader human capital development agenda.
Dr. Balarabe described KASU as a strategic institution where future doctors, engineers, teachers, entrepreneurs, researchers, public servants and other leaders acquire the knowledge and values needed to build a stronger Kaduna State and a more prosperous Nigeria.
The deputy governor urged council members to provide strategic direction, uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability, safeguard academic excellence, strengthen the university’s financial sustainability and support management in creating an environment where teaching, research, innovation and character formation can thrive.
She emphasized the need for the council to be mindful of the thousands of young minds entrusted to its care. The quality of its leadership, she said, would determine the university’s future, noting that every decision taken by the council would shape the lives of thousands of students who look to the institution for opportunity and hope.
The inauguration signals the state government’s continued focus on higher education as a driver of development. Kaduna State University, established in 2004, has grown into a key institution in northern Nigeria, with multiple campuses and a expanding academic portfolio. The new governing council assumes responsibility at a time when Nigerian universities face persistent challenges around funding, infrastructure and academic quality assurance.
Observers say the council’s effectiveness will be measured by its ability to translate policy directives into measurable improvements in teaching standards, research output and graduate employability. The university’s leadership has previously highlighted the need for enhanced internally generated revenue, curriculum modernization and stronger industry partnerships.
The state government’s human capital development agenda also includes investments in basic and secondary education, technical and vocational training, and digital skills programs targeting youth employment.
