Berlin-based Fintech Moss has secured €30 million (£25 million) in Series C funding, reaching unicorn status with a valuation exceeding €1 billion. The round brings total funding to more than €160 million since the company’s founding in 2019. Portage led the investment with participation from existing backer Cherry Ventures.
The capital will accelerate development of Moss’s Finance AI platform for European businesses and expand its digital spend management services for small and medium-sized enterprises across the region. The company, founded by Ante Spittler, Anton Rummel, Ferdinand Meyer and Stephan Haslebacher, provides an all-in-one platform combining corporate payment cards, invoice processing, employee expenses, accounting and real-time budgeting.
Moss reports processing more than two million transactions monthly for over 5,000 businesses in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany and Austria. Annual recurring revenue has surpassed €70 million with growth running at approximately 65 percent.
The company’s AI strategy centers on configurable agents that support finance professionals with routine tasks while keeping final decisions under human control. Rather than autonomous execution, the platform prepares work, explains recommendations and requires user approval for important actions. Chief Executive Ante Spittler said the focus is on improving productivity while preserving transparency and accountability throughout financial workflows.
A survey commissioned by Moss involving 471 finance leaders found that nearly half identified control as the most important factor when adopting AI-powered finance tools, while only a small minority preferred fully autonomous systems. The company believes this human-in-the-loop approach will improve trust as finance departments increasingly adopt automation.
Moss operates from Berlin with additional offices in Tallinn and Amsterdam, employing around 339 people. The company competes with global spend management platforms but sees its emphasis on explainable AI and human oversight as a competitive advantage in Europe’s growing financial technology market.
