Seyi Makinde, the presidential flag-bearer of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has named Lawal Musa Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), as his running mate for the 2027 election. The announcement came on Thursday during the party’s elective national convention held in Bauchi.
The Oyo State governor framed the move as part of a larger mission, arguing that the opposition’s challenge goes beyond simply seizing power. He stressed that the real task is to hand Nigerians a credible alternative capable of rescuing the nation and securing its future. Makinde warned that the upcoming campaign season will be filled with slogans, promises, and grand declarations, but insisted that voters must hold their leaders to a higher standard.
“As we approach 2027, therefore, I believe the task before all of us is bigger than winning an election. It is to give Nigerians a real choice about the future of their country,” he said.
Daura, who joined the APM just days ago after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), steps in for Ibrahim Adamu Bala. Bala had been named earlier as Makinde’s running mate but was widely seen as a temporary placeholder.
