Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised for tension arising from remarks he made during a visit to the palace of the Owa of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, following the Osun State governorship election.
The senator said his visit was intended to seek justice and express grief over the killing of members of his political party. He stated that his emotional appeal was misrepresented by critics as a call for violence, a characterisation he rejected as unfair.
Fadahunsi maintained he never advocated chaos or violence, explaining that his words were spoken at a moment of deep personal distress over the deaths. He thanked the Owa for handling the situation with wisdom and restraint, describing the monarch’s calm response as pivotal in preventing escalation.
“The peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat,” Fadahunsi said. “I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding.”
He called on supporters and residents to embrace peace and work towards healing. The senator also urged respect for traditional institutions as pillars of unity in Ijesaland.
While apologising for the tension, Fadahunsi said his demand for justice over the killings remains unchanged. He appealed to the Osun State Government and security agencies to conduct thorough investigations and ensure accountability through lawful means.
The senator urged all parties to set aside political differences and collaborate for lasting peace in the state, pledging to continue pursuing justice for the victims while discouraging actions that could provoke further unrest.
