Myles Gaskin Announces NFL Retirement After Five Seasons

Former NFL running back Myles Gaskin announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday night, closing a six-year career that spanned four organizations.

In a statement posted to social media, Gaskin reflected on his relationship with the game. “Football . . . there will never be enough words to explain how I feel about you, so I won’t even try,” he wrote. “What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great. Thank you. It’s been real.”

The Miami Dolphins selected Gaskin in the seventh round of the 2019 draft. He spent his first four seasons in Miami, emerging as a reliable contributor out of the backfield and as a receiver. Over that period, he appeared in 47 games with 17 starts, accumulating 367 carries for 1,360 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He added 102 receptions for 712 yards and six scores through the air.

After leaving Miami, Gaskin had brief stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings before joining the Seattle Seahawks for part of the 2023 season. His final regular-season action came in a single game with Seattle, where he logged three offensive snaps and five on special teams, recording three carries for six yards.

Gaskin’s departure marks the end of a journey that began as a late-round pick and evolved into a versatile offensive weapon. His decision to pivot toward mentoring young athletes signals a continued connection to the sport, albeit from a different vantage point.
