Nigerian singer Naira Marley recently weighed in on the Lagos State governorship race, using a live Instagram video on Wednesday night to declare his support for incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu. He praised Sanwo‑Olu as “the best man for the job,” noting visible improvements in infrastructure and other sectors that anyone can see.

Marley emphasized that his endorsement was not tied to any political party. “I’m not for the All Progressives Congress, I’m not for the Peoples Democratic Party, I’m not for the Labour Party,” he said, adding that Lagos does not need further testing and that Sanwo‑Olu is the right person for the role. He stressed that his statement was not a paid promotion, pointing to the governor’s achievements and experience as evidence of his effectiveness.

According to Marley, the results of Sanwo‑Olu’s initiatives speak louder than words. “If you see all the ongoing projects, common bro,” he remarked, asserting that the governor’s actions demonstrate his commitment to making Lagos great.

Anticipating backlash from fans for naming a preferred candidate, Marley defended his right to speak out as a Nigerian. Speaking in Yoruba, he said, “You can’t say we should not talk now because of one thing or the other, we’re Nigerians, we’re not the APC. We all want a better Nigeria.”
