No fewer than 17 people were confirmed dead and three others injured in an auto crash at Yaura village on the Wudil‑Bauchi Road in the Albasu local government area of Kano State on Thursday. The Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to reporters in Kano. According to him, the accident involved a Honda Accord (registration NSR 81 VW) and a Volkswagen Sharon bus (registration NNG 275 XA). A motorist passing by reported the crash to FRSC patrol officials at about 14:20, and a rescue team was mobilised to the scene by 14:25.
Abdullahi said the crash resulted from excessive speed and improper overtaking, which caused loss of control and a head‑on collision that set one vehicle ablaze immediately. The two vehicles were carrying a total of 21 passengers: 11 adult males, five adult females and one male child lost their lives, while three others—one adult male, one adult female and one male child—sustained serious injuries. The injured were taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives.
While expressing condolences to the victims’ families, Abdullahi prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations in order to maintain an accident‑free society.
