A policeman named Judas Chiloane was shot dead while having sex with his lover in a bush in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The 60‑year‑old traffic chief from Bushbuckridge was allegedly shot twice in the back seat of his Ford Ranger bakkie; his companion escaped unharmed. Two suspects, Charles Mbungeni Mabuza and Howard Mashego, were arrested on Monday, 13 March, and arraigned in court on Wednesday, 15 March.
Commenting on the incident on Thursday, 16 March, Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the two men told police that they regularly visited the area near Graskop Road to rob couples who used the spot for “jola‑joling” (sex) in their cars. According to the report, the assailants seized Chiloane’s gun and fired at his thigh and upper body. The woman sought help, and when police arrived they declared their colleague dead at the scene.
A source told TimesLive that Chiloane was found without clothing, his uniform lying on the ground. He was first shot in the leg; when he tried to move to the driver’s side he was shot again. He attempted to drive about 124 metres before succumbing to his injuries. The suspects allegedly took his firearm and other items before fleeing.
Judas Chiloane’s brother, Richard, told reporters that the woman involved was unknown to the family. “We do not know that lady; I haven’t even seen her,” he said. “What we know is that my brother was a good man who loved his family and was a member of the Zion Christian Church. He did not drink or involve himself in anything wrong.” Richard acknowledged that, although his brother was a father of three, the family was only aware of his live‑in girlfriend.
