The Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya—better known as MC Oluomo—has denied threatening the Igbo community in Lagos. In a video posted on Friday, he said his remarks to a neighbour, Iya Chukwudi, were merely a joke made during a meeting on Thursday. A viral clip had shown the transport chief urging his supporters to vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, and in that footage he said, “We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it doesn’t call for a fight. Iya Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, stay at home.”

In the new video, MC Oluomo described Iya Chukwudi as “like my sister” and a good neighbour, emphasizing that he has always maintained peaceful relations with Igbo people who live and trade in Lagos. He explained, “The meeting I went to yesterday, she (Iya Chukwudi) is like my sister; she was the one I was referring to—‘If you know you’re not voting for me, sit at home.’ The next thing was that I just saw it on social media.” He added that he is “always for peace” and questioned why he would discourage people from voting, noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) needs votes and that “the Igbo will not vote for the APC” if they are barred. “The APC is my party; count me out of the allegations,” he asserted.

Iya Chukwudi, who also appears in the video, said MC Oluomo never threatened her. She said the transport chief regularly buys noodles and other goods from her and that their friendly conversation was taken out of context. “I thank God I’m now a celebrity. The little thing we joked about has now made me popular. It was my daughter who drew my attention to it on social media,” she said. “I and MC Oluomo have been friends for ages. My people, there’s no iota of truth in what people are sharing on social media. MC Oluomo is my good neighbour.”

MC Oluomo’s denial follows comments from Lagos State Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa, who said on Friday that the police command is investigating the alleged threat against non‑supporters of the APC and the Igbo, allegedly made by MC Oluomo. Owohunwa made the statement in an interview with Arise TV ahead of the governorship and state assembly elections scheduled for Saturday in the state.
