Zlatan Ibrahimović became the oldest scorer in Serie A history on Saturday, netting a penalty for AC Milan against Udinese in his first start for the club in more than a year. The 41‑year‑old veteran, recently recalled to the Sweden national team, converted the spot‑kick on his second attempt in first‑half stoppage time to level the match at 1‑1. After missing his initial effort, he was awarded a retake when Beto was penalised for encroachment, and he calmly placed the ball down the middle of the goal.
Despite Ibrahimović’s equaliser, Milan entered the break a goal behind, as Beto redeemed his earlier mistake by scoring on the stroke of half‑time. The Swedish striker was named in coach Stefano Pioli’s starting XI for the first time since January of the previous year and was handed the captain’s armband. Earlier this season he had only appeared as a substitute, having been sidelined since May after undergoing reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
At 41 years and 166 days old, Ibrahimović surpassed former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta to become the oldest goal‑scorer in Italy’s top flight. Milan sit fourth in the Serie A table ahead of Saturday’s fixture, 20 points adrift of league leaders Napoli.
