Argentinian coach Jorge Sampaoli was dismissed by Sevilla on Tuesday, with the team hovering just above the relegation zone. In a statement the club said: “Sevilla FC have today relieved Jorge Sampaoli of his duties. Following the defeat at Getafe, which leaves the side just above the relegation zone, the club have decided to part ways with the Argentine coach ahead of the international break.” The club added that it “would like to thank Jorge Sampaoli for his dedication and commitment at the club and wish him the best of luck in his future.”

Sampaoli, who previously managed Chile and Argentina, took charge of Sevilla in October. However, his second spell has failed to lift the side from its disappointing mid‑table form. Over 31 matches he recorded 13 wins, six draws and 12 defeats. Sevilla currently sit 13th in La Liga with 28 points, two points behind Getafe—who beat them 2‑0 on Sunday—and Almería, who occupy two of the three relegation spots.

Despite the league struggles, Sevilla will face Manchester United next month in the Europa League quarter‑finals, a competition the club has won a record six times.
